April 5 · Issue #34 · View online
Level Up delivers a curated newsletter for leaders in tech. A project by Ideal for busy people such as Tech Leads, Engineering Managers, VPs of Engineering, CTOs and more.

A few weeks and issues ago, and before there was a stronger lock down around Europe, my last in-person speaking event was at QCON London. At the conference, I presented a new talk, “Secrets of a Strong Engineering Culture.” I’m happy to announce InfoQ have now made the video online here.
In past issues, we’ve talked about handling a crisis, talked about remote working and being careful about advice in these stressful times. In this issue I want to ask you how you’re taking care of yourself? As a good leader, you’re probably concerned about the welfare for your team and colleagues. Make sure you don’t forget to prioritise your own self-care. Doing back-to-back meetings in real life is hard enough. Doing this continuously over teleconferencing software is even more so. Don’t forget to take breaks, stretch those legs and find ways to stretch your mental muscles.
Neglecting self-care as a leader will lead to burn-out. So please take care of yourself out there.
I hope you enjoy this week’s content. If you find it useful, please forward to someone else and send me feedback. Stay safe and healthy 🙏.
