Level Up delivers a curated newsletter for leaders in tech. A project by https://patkua.com. Ideal for busy people such as Tech Leads, Engineering Managers, VPs of Engineering, CTOs and more.

3 Years of Level Up - Special Offer
This week will mark three years of writing this newsletter with the first issue launching on Aug 18, 2019. Thank you for being a subscriber regardless of when you just joined. This side project started as a request when I was CTO/Chief Scientist sending a weekly update to my whole tech team, where I tried to include interesting links to themes I referred to.
Although I never planned for this newsletter to be sent weekly, it’s a cadence that I’ve managed to keep up without breaking even during holidays, or taking time off (requires a bit of planning). There’s no team behind this newsletter. Just me, Pat Kua (@patkua), sharing links I’ve been reading that I hope will benefit all of you. Since I’m human, I’ve definitely made mistakes, like sending the newsletter a day or two early, or sometimes at the wrong time (AM instead of PM). All leaders are human and mistakes are normal. I encourage you to admit them in front of your team to avoid pretending you’re perfect (we aren’t). This boosts psychological safety by setting the example that mistakes happen and it’s easier and better for everyone to admit them as early as possible than to pretend they never happen or cover them up.
🎉🎉🎉 To celebrate 3 years of Level Up, I’m offering a 30% discount for courses at the Tech Lead Academy. Since the anniversary falls in between two issues, this offer will be valid until issue #159 (28 Aug) comes out. Use the coupon: LEVELUP3YEARS on any or all courses at the Tech Lead Academy and use these self-paced courses to level up your own skills.
I hope you enjoy this week’s newsletter! Share it with a friend or colleague if you find it helpful, or drop me an email about topics you’d like to hear about in future editions.

🎉 I can't believe it's been three years of running this newsletter.

Telling your team that you will not be reachable by work email / Slack / etc during your vacation is one of the big things that a technical leader can do to inspire a healthier culture. It's a great shame that it is still so rare that it has to be remarked upon.
Thanks for making it this far! 🤗
